Wheelbase: 2,400 mm (94.5") - World-class gran turismo - Matching numbers V-12 engine - Restored in 2003; complete with wire and alloy wheels plus FIVA Class A3 identity The styling of the 275 GTB is rightly regarded as being among the purest and most beautiful of any Ferrari built. Certainly, Pininfarina had created a true, timeless classic of sports car design, which was beautifully executed by Scaglietti and remains just as stunning now as it did upon its unveiling in 1964. In October 1966 at the Paris Salon, Ferrari upped the ante with the introduction of the 275 GTB/4. Other than an increase in track by 24 mm, the chassis was unchanged. Outwardly the new car was the same other than a full-length bulge down the bonnet to clear the six downdraft Weber carburettors. The change in model designation, however, reflected the single but very substantial difference between the GTB/4 and its predecessor; the V-12 engine was equipped with four overhead camshafts, two per cylinder bank. This revised powerplant, known as Tipo 226, was directly derived from the 3.3- and 4.0-litre engines that powered the 275 and 330 P2 prototypes of the 1965 racing season. With remarkable mid-range torque and flexibility, this formidable powerplant was capable of propelling the new 275 GTB/4 to a top speed of 160 mph. Competition power levels had been made available to Ferrari’s clients right off the showroom floor. All told, however, only 330 examples were built. Chassis no. 09495 The Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta offered here, chassis 09495, was originally finished in Rosso Cordoba, with a Nero full leather interior and instrumentation in kilometres. Official Ferrari dealer M. G. Crepaldi Automobili S.a.s. in Milan, Italy sold it new on 9 February, 1967 to the first owner, Mr. Giuseppe Pagni, resident in Milan. On 1 April, 1967, 09495 was serviced and maintained at the Ferrari Factory in Modena, with 2,486 kms registered. In 1971, the car was exported from Italy to the United States, where it spent some time over the course of the decade before returning to Europe and being owned and enjoyed by preeminent car dealer Albrecht Guggisberg of Switzerland, who drove the car in the Grand Prix of Gollion in 1987. At this point the car had been refinished in silver grey. The car remained in long-term ownership thereafter. In 2003 the car was sold to the current Geneva-based owner, who has since commissioned a full restoration by SD Autocostruzioni in Torino, Italy. The vendor elected to finish the car in a Ferrari-appropriate shade of red with tan interior upholstery. Air conditioning was retro-fitted at this time and well hidden under the dash, making the car more useable on long trips and in hot weather. In July 2006 the beautifully restored four-cam participated in the Montreux Grand Prix. Forming part of a large Geneva-based collection, the car has seen very little use since the restoration, only coming out for important events where it was received with great interest. An RM Auctions specialist has personally inspected the car and can confirm that its condition is excellent and in line with the limited use it has seen in its current ownership. Retaining its matching numbers V-12 engine and handsomely presented today in a classic colour combination, 09495 remains both immensely desirable and eminently drivable. It is offered at auction complete with two sets of wheels, including both Borrani wire-spoke and Campagnolo alloy wheels, and FIVA Class A3 identity documents accompanying its sale. 09495 is an outstanding example of a perpetually desirable Ferrari model and one that is sure to remain a blue chip investment for years to come.
