It was a really big deal in the auto industry to recieve that award back then as it is today. But unfortunately the award came just in time to see the end of the run for the Charger R/T model as well as the Famous 426 Hemi. By the end of the '71 model year Dodge had only built 3,118 Chargers with the R/T package and only 75 of them came with the 426 Hemi engine installed. Of these 75 cars there were 30 equipped with a 4-sp. transmission. This particular '71 Hemi Charger R/T sold new at Tacoma Dodge in Tacoma, WA. and was in that area its entire life until coming to Oklahoma a few years back. This car has always been very well cared for and has never been in any accidents nor has it ever had any rust issues at all anywhere on the car, EVER. The car was still wearing its original paint until just a few years ago. Unfortunately due to some poor machine polishing and random scratches and chips the car really needed to be repainted. The original block was damaged early in the cars life and was replaced with a date-coded correct unstamped block. All of the original parts and components from the original block were re-installed on the replacement block. The original number matching 18-spline 4-speed trans and the original 3.54 Dana 60 still remain in the car. The mileage on the car is accurate and the interior is believed to be the original factory installed interior and is in very nice condition. As you will notice in the pictures the car has a matching Broadcast Sheet that is in very good condition. At the time the car was repainted I added the front and rear spoilers and the concealed headlight assembly.
