This Ferrari Daytona was a normal production “North American” market vehicle ordered new by Luigi Chinetti for his Luigi Chinetti Motors in Greenwich, Connecticut.
The order for this car was made in December of 1970 and it was completed sometime in January of 1971. The actual date of delivery is not known but it was delivered new to Chinetti’s dealership in Greenwhich, Connecticut sometime very early in 1971.
The original and current color configuration was red with tan interior and contrasting black “Daytona” seat inserts. The original owner is not recorded but the car was shown that same year at the Chicago Motor Show by the original owner. Sometime during the next ten years the car was stripped and painted to black.
It was offered for sale by a New York owner in 1982 and described as black/tan with low miles. Eight years later it was owned and offered for sale in 1990 by Jack Kasarjian of Westlake Village, California. Kasarjian described the car in detail stating that it had 1,000 miles on a full “frame-off” restoration and was now back to the original red/tan color combination. The car had 29,000 documented miles at this time.
Later that same year in 1990, this Ferrari was offered for sale by Santa Monica Sports Cars. It was again described as fully restored, low miles in red with a tan interior. The vendor offered it again in 1991.
In the Spring of 1994, this Ferrari was purchased by Symbolic Motor Car Company and offered for public sale with an asking price of $139,000. Total mileage at this time was 31,190. That same year our company sold this Ferrari to Ferrari of Las Gatos. They had the car there for sale and offered it and advertised it over the next three years. The car was described as before as being fully restored with low mileage (31,000) in red with a tan interior and five Borrani wire wheels. In 1998, this Ferrari became part of a prominent private museum collection in the Pacific Northwest where it has remained indoors in storage until July of this year.
Today, chassis No. 14045 remains largely as last restored 20 years ago. It has covered less than 4,000 miles since all work was done. All services are current and up-to-date. A detailed and comprehensive inspection, evaluation and lengthy test drive was just performed and with the exception of the AC, all is in excellent working order.
Body panel fit is extraordinarily good and the paint and interior are holding up extremely well. There are some minor stone chips and paint imperfections but not enough to detract from the car’s overall beautiful appearance.
This is a completely documented from new, matching numbers example with excellent compression, no-smoke, perfect brakes and excellent gearbox synchros.
