1932 Ford Roadster Highboy Hot RodSource: old_kar_guyNewport Beach, California, U.S.A. portfolio | web site Posted: 13 May 2010 Specs & DetailsExterior Color: burgundyInterior Color: tan Engine: 8 Transmission: manual This Highboy Roadster is a totally correct and authentic early sixties (1962) hot rod that underwent and incredibly fastidious restoration under the careful guidance of Ron Edmistion, long the driving force of Valvoline Motorsport; more famous people are involved in this car than you could ever imagine; The all steel '32 Roadster came from show car and Bonneville King Ermie Imerso, the frame was originally Z'd in the rear by Specialty Cars; The engine is a '62 Corvette 327 built by Reath Automotive of Long Beach, CA (home of the Dunn and Reath Dragster and the legendary Freight Train etc.); and includes a .030 overbore, decked block and line bored bearing journals, new pistons, rods, iskenderian 292 cam, 3 two-barrels on an offenhauser manifold, Hooker s/s headers, Cal CSTM valve covers, and one of the rare NASCAR type water pump/alternators driving a 55 Dodge chrome fan with radiator by Walker; you cannot overheat this car; chassis particulars include a early dropped forged front axle, custom hairpins, 56 F-100 front brakes capped with 1962 Pontiac polished, finned NASCAR drums from Fireball Roberts; car and obtained from Smokey Yunick, they are turned and balanced and all fitting are stainless steel; the engine drives through a polished aluminum '62 corvette T-10 4speed close ratio transmission; the '39 Ford pedal cluster had been highly modified and chromed, the drive shaft is also custom and chromed; the '39 Ford back axle houses a rare sand cast Halibrand rear with the ring and pinion out of Bill Cushenberry's famous Matador, driving Ford truck axels to '55 Ford rear brakes; the gas tank has been beautifully sculpted to accommodate the Halibrand rear and the ratios are 3:78 and 4:11; it also has hooded early Pete and Jakes shocks at all 4 corners; this rod has a very trick cross link steering system; two sets of wheels accompany the car, one being big and little solids with wide white new Firestones and '40 Ford hubcaps, the other being Kelsey-Hayes wires with large knobby tires to the rear and ribbed tires to the front Virtually the entire undercarriage of the car is chrome plated; the body has a stock 32 grille shell, very trick front spreader bar, 25 louver California Ford hood, working cowl flap, 2" chopped windshield, King Bee headlamps, cut down 40 Ford steering wheel with custom column by John mcNally; the instrument cluster of 5 domed gauges is one of the 2 prototype sets done by Dean Moon; the laser straight body is finished in a magnificent regency red lacquer by Butch Adams and the interior is rooled and pleated in a rich saddle leather with tan carpeting; the trunk is also fully finished; last details: '39 Ford taillights,This is a serious Hot Rod, it tracks unbelievably and has total chassis integrity and is a slingshot to drive with 380 hp at flywheel, or it will happily transport you at mundane speeds in a thoroughly civilized fashion; Ron Edmiston, Butch Adams, John NcNally, and a host of other dedicated hot rodders put their hearts and souls into this restoration of this very rare '60s California Hot Rod, no amount of money could duplicate it. This '32 Ford was invited to be shown at the first historical Hot Rods at Pebble Beach, a true honor!; and has several magazine articals written in its honor.
