In 1930, Cadillac introduced its new 16 cylinder masterpiece which carried a sticker price spiraling up to nearly $10,000. It shared an honor with only one other marque, Bugatti, who had produced a U shaped 16 cylinder motor in 1915 for aircraft production. Bugatti's moto was created by bolting two eight cylinder engines together; hardly new technology. Cadillac's was the first true 16 cylinder motor built from scratch. The block was designed by Owen Nacker and featured a 45 degree cylinder bank angle and overhead valve design that kept the engine very narrow. Mechanically, the Cadillac motor was a silicon/aluminum crankcase with iron cylinders and offered and advanced overhead valve design with automatic hydraulic valve lash compensators. This assured that the engine would run quietly and with minimal vibrations. To complement the ingenuity and genius of the V16 powerplant, the engine bay became one of the first to be given proper styling. The body styles and possibilites of these great motorcars were endless. Considering the limited production of 16 cylinder motors and the vast possibilities of custom coachwork that each recieved, it is safe to say that this All Weather phaeton is the only one of its kind. This car is the recipient of a first class total restoration. It was restored to compete in any major concours and shows in a spectacular fashion. This car has won its share of trophies in concours and CCCA judged events. Most recently shown at Meadowbrook. This car comes with its original buildsheet, invoice paperwork, Cadillac operator's manual, and Fleetwood Bodies Owner's manual. The car was built on April 8th of 1930 and delivered to a San Francisco dealer. It has been a California car from new.
