1966 Chevrolet Corvette Race Car - Sold at $350,000

This is the first Corvette raced by Bob Johnson of Marietta, Ohio (of the famous Johnson & Johnson racing team) and originally owned by Doug Bergen. It was located intact and in good condition in Ohio by Corvette restorer Kevin Mackay and super car sleuth David Reisner.

Both the 1966 Coupe's Tuxedo Black paint and Saddle leather interior are the rarest colors for that year, making it an extremely significant vehicle aside from its historical value. Other options in the radio delete Corvette include the monster 427/425 HP engine, teak steering wheel, telescopic column and side exhaust.

This Corvette won many races in 1967 alone and was notorious for tearing up the SCCA Central Division's A Production Class in 1966-68. Before its retirement, it competed in the 1967 run offs at Daytona and was among the leaders until a head gasket blew, which resulted in a 7th place finish. The car saw street duty from 1968-75 and was in storage since then. This Corvette was sent directly to Corvette Repair, Inc. of Valley Stream, New York for state of the art restoration. With the help of Doug Bergen and Bob Johnson, they provided documentation, photographs and some original pieces when it raced, which was critical for restoration. The car was part of the The Patterson Collection for several years.
