With 471 hp from its 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, the lightweight exotic is blindingly fast. It may not be as fast as todays modern superexotics, yet it is a whole lot more of a satisfying and exhilarating vehicle to drive. When the turbos come in, the vehicle becomes extremely violent in it's behavior, it's a car that you have to master. There are no electronic systems in place. About 1300 F40s were made from 1987 to 1992. Since then, Ferrari has produced the even more exotic F50 and the Enzo. But for all those cars' abilities, they lack the soul of the F40 and the drop-dead gorgeous styling that distinguishes it as one of Pininfarina's high points.

From WikipediaThe Ferrari F40 is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, two-door coupé sports car produced by Ferrari from 1987 to 1992 as the successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO. At the time it was the fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car that Ferrari sold to the public. The car debuted with a factory suggested retail price of approximately US$400,000, although some buyers were reported to have paid as much as US$1.6 million. 1,315 F40s were manufactured in total. |
