1990 Ferrari F40

The Ferrari F40 was introduced in 1988 to celebrate 40 years of Ferrari as a carmaker. The F40, a successor to the 288 GTO, was the last car with a design personally approved by Enzo Ferrari himself. The car debuted in U.S. with a factory MSRP of $400,000; however, since demand was very high, some buyers were reported paying well into the million dollar range for their F40s. Only 1,311 examples were created worldwide. Of those, there were approximately 210 U.S.- Spec cars brought into the country and sold through the Ferrari franchise network. European versions will not meet United States D.O.T. or E.P.A. requirements.

This example is a 1990 U.S. Spec vehicle that was first sold through Newport Imports, the Ferrari franchise in Newport Beach, California on January 25, 1991. Although the window sticker had an M.S.R.P. of $ 403,250.00, (see photo attached) the original owner paid in excess of $850,000 for this car. He thoroughly enjoyed the car and drove it often during his first few years of ownership. The car was serviced and detailed regularly at the Ferrari dealership.

In June 1992 with 8,534 miles the car developed a slight engine noise and was transported to Ferrari. It was discovered that a bolt/nut in the oil pump assembly had come loose, creating a major internal engine malfunction. Upon further examination/research, it was found to be a factory defect (this was not well publicized). As a resolution to the engine malfunction, Ferrari N.A. agreed to replace the entire engine at no cost to the owner. An entire new factory engine was installed (see attached photo). Lastly, the owner requested since he was getting a new engine, he wanted the odometer replaced at the same time to represent the new engine. This work was conducted by Ferrari N.A. and the car was completed on July 17, 1992.

The owner drove the car sparingly for the next two years, and in the Spring of 1995 sold the car to a well known Exotic Car dealer in Southern California showing approximately 3,800 miles, which represented the mileage on the new engine. The car was then sold to its 2nd owner who registered on June 12, 1995. The second owner drove the car less than 1,850 miles in the 12 year period of his ownership from 1995 until 2006 when Cardiff Classics acquired the vehicle.

In order to prepare the car for sale, it was decided to send the car to Bobileff Motor Cars in San Diego California for a comprehensive major service. Totaling close to $ 19,000.00 No expense sparred. The car needs nothing and is now ready for inspection and sale. It currently has 14,565 miles.
