It was a photo-documented, ground-up, nut-and-bolt restoration by premier marque specialist Tsikuris Classics, a well-known and respected restorer of Austin-Healeys. Every part was either restored or replaced and reassembled to produce a fit and finish that are better than new. We chose to use the beautiful Metallic Golden Beige rather than the original Healey Blue. Metallic Golden Beige was an original Austin-Healey color in 1967, and came from the factory with either a red or black interior. I have over $80,000 invested in the car and believe it would cost at least $100,000 to duplicate today. I have driven the car in Austin-Healey Club events and entered it in numerous car shows. It is a consistent award winner. In addition to many other awards, it won Best of Show in the UK in 2000 out of about 500 British classic cars, and Best of Class at Lake Tahoe in 2002 out of about 100 BJ8s. We have used the car only occasionally since then. The odometer had 63,695 miles on it when I bought the car, and it appeared to be the actual mileage. After the total restoration, the odometer was reset to zero (it was essentially a brand new car). I have driven the car 19,000+ miles since then, almost all of which has been at Austin-Healey Club events. The car is always garaged when not being driven and I tow the car to out-of-area events in an enclosed trailer. The car includes some modifications that are commonly made to Austin-Healeys to make them better to drive and easier to maintain. All the changes were made with the idea of maintaining the original appearance as much as possible. Most of them are not even noticeable to most people. Here are some examples. The original 4-speed overdrive transmission has been replaced with a modern 5-speed. It makes the car much easier to drive, is smoother and quieter and generates less heat in the cockpit. Another is that the shock absorbers, bushings and front anti-sway bar are upgraded. Another is that the original awkward oil filter now is a modern spin-on type. You can change the oil and filter in 15 minutes using a locally available $4.00 filter. Another example is the extended rear-view mirror. It’s mounted on the dash and the original is too short to see over the top when it’s down. Maybe a small thing, but it’s sure nice to see out the back. Another is the engine cooling capacity has been improved, as these cars sometimes tend to run hot. Again, I think most people don’t even notice. Things that are visible changes from original are the CB radio, performance exhaust system, 72-spoke chrome/stainless wheels and the Michelin tires. I have the original transmission, which was completely rebuilt during the restoration process and will go with the car. I also have the original oil filter assembly, shock absorbers, front anti-sway bar and some other original parts which will go with the car.
