Timoney Technology Group Press Release
Gibbstown, Ireland
19 Sept 2004

The Timoney Technology Group designs and develops a variety of armoured and soft skin vehicles for military and commercial applications, mainly utilising their unique Independent Suspension Technology. Timoney's range of high mobility vehicles includes Armoured Personnel Carriers, Infantry Fighting Vehicles, Combat Support Vehicles, Heavy Transporters and Airport Crash Fire Rescue Vehicles.

Production takes place under licensing and technology transfer programmes by international manufacturers in their own territories. Staff development and maximizing local content are key elements in such programmes. In addition to developing their own vehicles and driveline systems, the organisation provides contract vehicle and component design services to many world-leading OEMs.

Recently developed by Timoney Technology for Singapore Technologies Kinetics, the Terrex AV81 Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle has a modular top deck which allows the vehicle configuration to be changed rapidly and to carry different weapon systems ranging from turreted guns to 105mm and mortar systems. Various levels of ballistic protection are offered, up to 14.5mm all round. The V-shaped hull is designed to withstand a 10-12kg mine blast detonation under the hull.

Exceptional mobility and agility has been achieved using the Timoney double wishbone suspension system. Standard coil spring and shock absorbers can be replaced with fully interchangeable hydropneumatic struts.

This is just one element in the overall design which allows for future technology insertions, including powertrain and tyre options for growth and heavier versions, hydraulic or electric hybrid drive systems, and electronic steer and traction systems.

The accommodation of alternative components, systems and manufacturing processes to maximise local content under technology transfer programmes has been integral to the design phase. This vehicle, which is fully amphibious and C130 transportable, made its public debut at the DSEI exhibition in the UK during September.
