Clearing out my collection of Garage Queens- This is a unique opportunity to purchase a very latel Maserati Bora. The Bora was introduced in the early 1970's as a way for Citroen, who had recently acquired Maserati, to showcase its technology on a world class exotic. The Bora was Maserati's answer to the Ferrari Boxer and in many ways it is superior. While the Boxer is a serious performance car, the Bora delivers performance and creature comforts at the same time … plus it is powered by the 4.9 liter Maserati V8 known for its reliability and flexibility to performance and around town driving. The Bora has a mid-mounted V8 engine with for overhead cams and fed by four dual throat Weber carbureators. It uses a ZF 5 speed transaxle (same as the Pantera) and the LHM Citroen braling system for superb stopping power. One of the unique features of the Bora are the seats. They are extremely comfortable and well suited for long trips. The driver seat does not move forward or backwards, it moves hydraulically up and down. Instead the pedal assembly is adjusted by the touch of a button to fit the driver …. just like in an airplane! The dash of the Bora is both very functional and always a topic of conversation for its "airplane cockpit" look.. It has one of the most comprehensive set of gauges, dials, knobs and switches of any land vehicle. Driving this Bora is a very unique and pleasant experience. The car feels solid and the powerful V8 quicky glues you to the seat. Easy to drive around town and great on open roads …. and the exhaust makes wonderful mechanical music. This 1977 Maserati is probably the best Bora around. As the last one by serial # is 988 ( this one 984) this is one of the last 5 made and USA delivered. The previous original carpets ( have photos) were in great shape but those old Bora gray carpets didn't match anything, and looked funny, so now their replace with new --- black. I had custom hand cut logo mats added inside and the trunk. The yellow thread stitching is a small touch like the new Ferrari's have. The upholstery is original and in perfect soft leather condition. All instruments and switches look new and work well. The Spare is the perfect non used XWX. Everything works perfectly and it really runs strong and no smoke and very smooth idle. The windshield is like new, like all glass. Rare original tool kit and jack, complete with owners manual and parts list reproduction. Even the storage compartment light works-as well the clock. New battery with a quick disconnect. The air cleaner is off for better view of Carbs, and the spare and engine cover are out for better pictures. The paint is the original yellow lacquer-and in great shape overall. There are 3 places were small stress paint cracks appeared , in the typical Bora areas-Roof corners, and decklid corner. These are very small and although I have the matched paint-I have chosen not to have spotted for originality. The previous owner purchased this Bora in the summer of 1997. At that time the clocks showed about 5,000 miles. Prior to taking delivery, he had the car shipped to Algar Ferrari in PA, where the car was substantially sorted after years of very little driving. Algar replaced the shocks on all 4 corners, and as Italian rubber doesn't take time well, all suspension rubbers and bushings, replaced the window felts, replaced all cooling hoses, all fuel lines, freshened the brakes and hydraulic system, and put on a new set of tires (P4000s). In 2000, European Service Center did an extensive engine compartment detail job (about $8,000), including powder coating the headers and painting most visible components. They added an oil cooler at that time. Easily removed for concours. Little other maintenance has been needed over the past few years, save a new water pump, one hydraulic switch, and a new ignition switch. This car sold at Barrett-Jackson in 1990 (documented on their site) for $143,000 (plus premium), and was shipped to Japan. The documented mileage at that time was 4,100 miles, and the condition was listed as excellent. After years it reentered the USA and was then purchased by the previous owner. Approximately 524 Boras were built over an 8 year period. This is a unique opportunity to not only purchase an example that is in concours original condition, with under 9000 documented miles, has a very attractive color combination and is sure to stand out even among other Boras for representing the last of the era.
