Car could go for $12k next month after some TLC. Honest driver with a few originality issues. MGA's gaining respect, up 9% last year. ~~~ I think this auction could have broken $10k with a better presentation, including larger photos and documentation. Worth the effort for a couple thousand extra, eh? (Chris Lydiksen) OWNER'S COMMENTS 1959 MGA Red convertible with 15" spoke rims and Pirelli 165 SR 15 radial tires. New chrome front bumper and chrome over riders (bumper guards). Two fender mounted chrome rear view mirrors, new chrome luggage rack. White full top and tonneau cover both in very good condition. It has red interior with white piping. Simulated wooden dash and wooden steering wheel. Sony AM/FM cassette player. AMCO clear acrylic side wind visors. Battery is one month old, 2 new brake cylinders (rear), new stainless steel sleeved brake and clutch master cylinder, and all new brake shoes (front and rear). I purchased this car from the third owner, who bought it and garaged it in 1973 from the 2nd owner who had garaged it since 1968. In 1993 the engine, transmission, and rear end were overhauled. Floor boards and rocker panels were replaced, so was the carpet. The paint job is 10 years old, but it looks great. The trunk is in great shape, I sanded and painted it with POR-15, minimal surface rust. The drain slots are clear and rust free. The original tire cover is intact, not much to look at but it's a testament to how well the car has been taken care of. The car looks and drives straight on the highway. The rack is tight and true, spokes have been blasted, painted, trued and balanced. The car has a tight suspension and is quite to ride in. It's a blast to drive and everyone seems to know us when were in it, we get a lot of waves and smiles while driving. My wife calls it SWEET THING, so come and meet SWEET THING, she'll steal your heart. There is a 3" crack in the paint between the driver side headlight and grill; caused by a dent which was removed. During restoration the previous owner removed the original metal dash (which I have and is in good condition) and replaced it with a simulated wood dash. This caused the lost of ground to the gauges, which kept him from driving the car. I've corrected this, except for the blower motor (I'm not sure how to ground the switch). The capillary tube for temp gauge has lost it's gas charge and doesn't work. Besides that, everything works. Including the map light and turn signal indicators. The left rear wheel cylinder went out and leaked brake fluid which compromised the paint on the inside of the rim, which isn't visible in the photos and is hard to see in person.
