2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse Coupe and Spyder - What's New for 2003Source: MitsubishiTokyo, Japan portfolio | web site Posted: 08 Oct 2002 Eclipse What's New for 2003 The 2003 Eclipse Coupe enjoys several enhancements that aim to maintain this front-wheel-drive sports coupe at eh forefront of its segment. This youthful, aggressively styled sports coupe has succeeded by combining a fun-to-drive nature performance with image and functionality. The 2003 Eclipse's mild exterior redesign will continue to turn heads. The new alloy wheels designs for GS, GT, and GTS add considerable visual appeal with new 17-inch designs available on the GT and GTS. The halogen headlamps, front bumper fascia and rear combination lamps have been re-styled to create a sportier image. The GT and GTS models: feature redesigned fog lights become more integrated with the new bumper, and RS and GS models receive fog light hole covers. The interior of the Eclipse has been redesigned to provide a fresh, new sporty appeal. All three vehicles, RS, GS and GT, have a new sport seat fabric, while GTS receives all new leather seating surfaces. The door panels, armrest, and the seats are uniformly colored, and each piece complements the other. Interior colors have been updated and now have themes: Midnight - black interior with dark blue accents on instrument panel, armrest, seats, and door panel inserts. Sand Blast - black interior with taupe colored seats, armrest, and door panel inserts Redesigned gauge faces, and optional steering wheel mounted audio controls help add distinction and convenience to the Eclipse interior. The 3.0 liter V6 in the Eclipse Coupe GTS features improved performance thanks to Mitsubishi's Variable Induction Management System (MVIM) which is basically two intake systems in one. MVIM electronically adjusts to maximize and broaden engine power throughout the rpm range and exhibits 210 horsepower @ 5750 rpm and 205 lbs/ft @ 3750 rpm. The 4-speed SportronicTM transmission is also available on the GS, GT and GTS models and allows the driver the freedom of clutchless gear selection. Eclipse Spyder What's New for 2003 The 2003 Eclipse Spyder continues its success as a youthful, stylish sports convertible that combines outstanding fun-to-drive dynamic performance with functionality. The interior and exterior to the 2003 Eclipse Spyder has been restyled. The exterior redesign receives the same enhancements as the 2003 Coupe with a sportier front fascia, headlight arrangement and a new pair of clear tail light lenses. The alloy wheels features new designs for GS, GT, and GTS. The GT and GTS Spyder ride on aluminum finned-spoke 17-inch wheels. All Eclipse Spyders sport a new front bumper that highlights the redesigned, recessed fog lights. The halogen headlamps and rear combination lamps have been refined to create a sporty edge. The interior of the Eclipse Spyder has been redesigned to provide a fresh, new sporty appeal. GS and GT models gain a new sport seat fabric, while GTS receives all new leather seating surfaces. The door panels, armrest, and the seats are uniformly colored, and each piece complements the other. The Spyder's interior colors have been updated and now have themes: Midnight - black interior with dark blue accents on instrument panel, armrest, seats, and door panel inserts. New for 03MY are standard steering wheel audio controls that are located behind the steering wheel. The driver may scan radio stations with the left side controls, and adjust volume or select AM/FM/CD on the right side. All 6-cylinder Eclipse Spyders (GT and GTS) exhibit maximum engine performance through Mitsubishi's Variable Induction Management System (MVIM) which is basically two intake systems in one. A convertible body style was added for the 1996 model year. According to Mitsubishi, the car was named after an 18th century English racehorse which won 26 races, and has also been sold as the Eagle Talon and the Plymouth Laser captive imports through Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with the Chrysler Corporation. |
