1950 Studebaker halfton shortbed pickup. The original engine was frozen beyond unsticking and it was replaced with a good engine from a '59 truck. It is still a Commander engine and has about 75,000 original miles. A Studebaker mechanic helped get truck ready to drive. The tranny is an overdrive unit (the truck did not originally have an overdrive unit) from a '47 Commander (it has been completely rebuilt.) This tranny give the truck a better gear ration for motoring down the road. The radiator looks bad, but a flow test shows it works well. The body will suffice, but will need paint before long. There is a little rust starting along the right front lip of the hood. The floors have some patches. The bed has a sheet of steel in it and from the under side I can see rust through the original floor towards the back of the bed. The rubber around the windows is old and I have replacements for that. The side glasses are cracked. The truck has an after market electric windshield wiper unit, which quite frankly has never worked properly. The original vacuum unit was already removed from the truck when I got it. I have seen this unit on C-Cab truck before so I suppose it should work all right, but I have not been able to get it right. Notice the GM alternator and the heater. They works great! You can see here that this is not an original tailgate. But it works fine, and draws lots of attention. Also you will notice that the rear valance (?) under the bumper is a piece of wood. Some put this to cover the original which is damaged. It origially matched some state side that were on the sides of the bed. $4750. 336-765-8312 evenings only, N.Carolina, email: wwhitfield@triad.rr.com for more pictures.
