"Ain't Apologisin"
Billy Carters Chevy Step Side Pick-up!
This is the actual Billy Carter truck which Revell models offered in a 1/25th scale kit back in 1978. Most Americans will remember Former President Jimmy Carters younger brother Billy, he was quite a character! Who could ever forget Billy Beer! On every can the Presidents brother is quoted as saying:
"I had this beer brewed up just for me, I think it's the best I ever tasted - and I've tasted a lot."
Billy Carter owned and operated a service station in Plains Georgia. When the press came to Plains Georgia to meet the younger brother of the Democratic Party's front runner for the Presidency Billy was quoted from his gas and service station as saying:
"My mother went into the Peace Corps when she was sixty eight. My one sister is a motorcycle freak, my other sister is a Holy Roller evangelist and my brother is running for President. I'm the only sane one in the family."
Some say Billy Carter was the greatest loved Democrat by the Republican party. Billy Carter was interviewed by Playboy magazine in the November issue of 1977 - the cover reads “Billy Carter on Beer, Women and his brother, the President.†Penthouse magazine interviewed him in 1979 and he appeared on the cover of Time magazine in 1980 - the headline read “Coping With Billy.†He was a colorful character who did not hesitate to give his opinion or to capitalize on his brothers presidency. There were Billy Carter T shirts, post cards, coffee mugs, buttons, bumper stickers and there was this truck, the one of a kind Redneck Power Pick-up!
This is a 1 of 1 truck and comes with a folder full of documentation including original correspondence between Revell and Billy Carters representatives. After Carters use the truck was sold to an executive at Revell Models. He kept the truck for a few years, selling it in 1983 to a car museum in North Carolina where it was displayed for 22 years! The odometer indicates 10,500 miles which is believed to be correct but the truck is sold “odometer exempt.â€Â
This is a two wheel drive step side equipped with a 350 V8, automatic, power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel, air conditioning, am/fm stereo with C.B. and much more. The words “Cast Iron†are painted on the doors, this was Billy Carters C.B. handle. The words “Ain’t Apoligisin†appear on the tailgate along with “I Can Take Care Of Myselfâ€Â.
Billy Carter was just 51 years old when he died in 1988 of pancreatic cancer - the disease that also killed President Carters father and a sister. The family said he died peacefully in his sleep and never lost his sense of humor.
