This car is truly an example of 70's excess. When new, I hated these cars thinking that Detroit was truly out of touch with the market. They were, and people like me bought fuel-efficient Japanese cars in record numbers as gasoline prices soared to over 50 cents/gallon! Still, over 90,000 Elites were sold in 1976 -it's third and final year. It was soon to be replaced by the LTD II. My Elite, "Betty", handles like a much smaller vehicle and is a pleasure to drive.
