Source: Petersen Automotive MuseumBeverly Hills, California, U.S.A.portfolio | web site Posted: 05 Apr 2000 After WWII, dozens of companies sprang up to meet pent-up demand for new cars. Gary Davis built and promoted a particularly unusual car with aircraft-inspired styling, disappearing headlights, four-abreast seating, aluminum body construction, and the simplicity of three wheels. Built in a production facility at the Van Nuys Airport, it was touted as the car of the future. Although Davis raised enough money from franchises to build 17 of the three-wheelers, he was unable to deliver on time to would-be dealers. Although steadfastly maintaining his innocence, Davis was convicted on 24 counts of fraud in January 1951. His request for an appeal was denied and in July of 1952 he was sentanced to an 18-month prison term.
